GARNET THE RED DELICIOUS - January birthstone

In a month like January most people are concerned with keeping warm and staying out of the cold cold cold winter air...I know I certainly am! So it seems just perfect that the January birthstone should be such a warm coloured stone. Garnet has a lush deep red colour and is often used in place of it's more expensive cousin the Ruby. According to myth, a Garnet illuminated Noah's Ark day and night when the skies were black with rain. That's a nice thought isn't it? I suppose that's where the stone gets it's reputation for being an all round good luck charm. Bohemian Butterfly tries to use a variety of stones in our work and we often turn to garnet to add richness to a piece. A particular favourite of mine is the Serendipity necklace which features Garnets and raw Rubies...why take one or the other when you can have both right?
